Frequently asked questions

How many km does a motorcycle go on one tank?

Tank capacity ÷ consumption × 100. A typical 14-litre tank at 4 L/100km gives about 350 km; small scooters manage 250-300 km on tiny tanks thanks to very low consumption, while big adventure bikes with 20+ litre tanks exceed 400 km. Pick your model above for its own figure.

What is the fuel reserve and when does the warning light come on?

The reserve is the last part of the tank — typically 15-20% or 2-4 litres on modern bikes. The low-fuel light usually comes on when only the reserve is left, which means roughly 40-70 km remain. Our safe-range figure is calculated to the light, not to a dry tank.

Is real-world consumption different from the catalogue figure?

Usually yes, by up to ±20%. Catalogue figures come from standardised tests; sustained highway speeds above 110 km/h, stop-and-go traffic, a passenger, luggage and wind all increase consumption. Track a few of your own fill-ups and enter your real figure for an accurate range.

How can I extend my range?

Smooth throttle, keeping cruising speed around 90-100 km/h, correct tire pressures, a clean air filter and a well-lubricated chain make the biggest difference. Aerodynamic extras help on naked bikes; aggressive luggage and a passenger work against you.

How often should I stop on a long trip?

Plan fuel stops at your safe range, but most riders need a break every 200-250 km anyway — fatigue arrives before the reserve does. In remote regions, top up at every opportunity rather than stretching to the calculated maximum.

Should the tank always be filled to the brim?

For range calculations, yes — fill to the same point every time so your consumption math stays consistent. Leave a little air space in hot weather for expansion, and avoid running the tank bone-dry: on injected bikes the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel around it.
